# The GHK gene-expression claim

> Luxurious Med Spa examines the GHK gene claim — The GHK gene-expression claim at Luxurious Med Spa: what the large percentage describes, the threshold behind it and why breadth alone leaves me unconvinced.

A very large claim opens a different drawer from the facial cream findings.

## The threshold behind the percentage

The [2018 gene-data review](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6073405/) reports that GHK modulates expression of approximately 31.2% of human genes at a 50%-or-greater change threshold. The setting is gene-expression and Connectivity Map analysis, with related cell-culture validation.

Expression concerns gene activity. In this analysis some affected genes had increased expression and others had suppressed expression. The percentage describes a pattern of changes selected by a threshold.

I admire this sprawling pattern; the easy promotion of “broad” to “better” leaves me cold. A large set of changed signals invites investigation. It also creates a substantial job of working out what those changes amount to in a particular setting.

## The frequently repeated gene count

The [gene-data account](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6073405/) distinguishes the often-quoted figure of about 4,000 genes, an extrapolation, from the threshold table’s count on the order of 2,100 genes. Both numbers can sound impressive in isolation; their relation to the threshold is where the substance lies.

The threshold gets my underline. A tally depends on the rule that admits a change into the tally. Once the threshold disappears, an exact-looking count becomes much easier to admire than to interpret.

The review describes shifts toward tissue-repair, protein-quality-control, DNA-fidelity and antioxidant programs. Those are the programs associated with the transcriptomic result. They give the pattern biological interest while leaving a different task for an experiment measuring an actual skin outcome.

## Rejuvenation as a conclusion

I balk at translating this gene-expression pattern into a measured rejuvenation of a person. The cited result comes from database analysis and laboratory work; its outcome is a transcriptomic shift. I want a claim about a face to return to a face.

I return willingly to the comparatively ordinary questions of [facial cream outcomes](/facial-creams) and [skin penetration](/skin-penetration). A modest measurement can be more satisfying than a sweeping description when it shows clearly what happened.

The [gene-data review](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6073405/) remains an intriguing piece of the cabinet. For me it earns a place as an ambitious research argument, with skin outcomes left to the studies that measured them.
